Gold Rush

Given that this is probably the only time I will ever be able to compete in an Olympics, I've decided to participate in the Harlot's 2006 Knitting Olympics. I thought carefully about what project I would want to and be able to work on, yet have it be challenging to finish. I finally decided on a lace shawl. I fell in love with Birch and that would normal be my first choice, but the start of the Olympics unfortunately coincided with my yarn diet. However, I found a suitable alternative and although I still had to buy yarn for the project, $4.50 is a much better slip than $45.

This is the Adamas Shawl from KnitPicks:
This will be my first official lace project ever. I am working on the Madison scarf (also from KnitPicks), but you use a heavier weight yarn so it's not really lace in my book. So, this should be interesting and I sure hope it goes well. I figure I will either enter into the amazing world of lace with an Olympic gold, or I will crash and burn.

I think Nonnahs is almost convinced to join the olympics as well, so she will probably be posting her project picture soon as well. Nonnahs - youcandoit!

Yay!! I think you can pick up a Lace Team button over at JenLa. :)

I'm still swatching out of my stash and trying to figure out what I'll be doing. Stashalong is making this very interesting.

Good luck with the shawl! Lace is fun and birch will be around later too.

Ooh, I'm so excited for you. Competing in the Olympics AND a lace shawl. Such huge milestones.

A little thought on the stitch markers:
I used make-shift ones that left largish holes in my shawl that are pretty visible and pretty much impossible to get out when blocking. My suggestion is to use something with a really small diameter. Even a bit of thin (but smooth) yarn in another color (to avoid confusion). That's what I'll do next time I try a lace shawl.

It will be a very challenging but rewarding project. I'm looking forward to seeing the final product.

I am also making the Adamas shawl for the Knitting Olympics. It will be my first lace work. The only other shawl I have made is the clapotis. I use coated paper clips for stitch markers with thinner yarns. They don't tend to snag or leave gaps.
