DIS 3.0

Like the ability to knit in the car, one knitting "skill" that I have been envious of since I first heard that it was possible, was the ability to read while you knit. Mouse knits while she reads blogs, Jeanette knits while reading case law (what?), and Chris, well, she knits while reading A LOT. I am an avid reader, but have read less and less as I have been knitting more and more. And when I am reading a particularly good book, I feel like I have to sacrafice one for the other.

Monday during jury duty (No, I didn't get picked. And yes, I snuck my knitting through security.) I had my current book (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) and my knitting to keep me company. But after reading for two hours, I was ready for a little knitting. But, I didn't have any music with me and I didn't feel like watching the View (sorry, not my thing). Needless to say I got tired of knitting 4X2 rib real quick. Then I realized that the hard cover book I was reading (I usually prefer paperbacks because they are easier for me to cart around everyday), stayed open nicely on my lap without help...Hmmm...(can you hear the hampster wheel turning?)...I watch TV while I knit...I watch movies while I knit...I even occasionally read subtitles while I knit...Is it possible that I really can read while I knit? And with that, the world opened up.

I am pleased to announce the newly released DIS version 3.0 - now with simultaneous knit-read built right in! Now I don't have to divide my time between knitting and reading and I have finally understand the purpose of the hard cover book. Boy, have I been missing out! I can't wait to make my next trip to the library.

Whoo Hoo! Congratulations! I find hard bound books are definitely better than paperback for knitting and reading. As far as reading case law and knitting goes, case law is so tedious that I need something to keep me awake.

Oooo, so good to know. I'm exactly like you. I love to read, but haven't been able to figure out how to do it while knitting. Ok, will look for hardbound books at the library! Whee!!!

oh and as a bookseller -- I would like to tell you how to read a paperback and knit....
BOOK Weights
you can get them at Barnes& Noble -- where I work - and probably other bookstores
they hold the book open for you

I don't have book weights, but I have one of those things that holds recipe books open for you while you cook (and is supposed to keep the book clean). Though I cook a lot, I use that thing mostly for knit-reading, though, since I've been doing lots of lace lately, I can't read and knit at the same time.

Anyway, the release of Dis 3.0 is definitely exciting news.

Congrats!!! Woo-hoo!! I am doing a little happy dance for you!

Now you just need to get some sort of book stand that you can balance on the arm of your chair or on a pillow on your lap and the reading even gets easier. I'm testing the BookGem this week, to see how it compares to my ReadUpon. I'll post details sometime in the not-too-distant future.

I actually choose reading based on whether or not it will lie flat. No joke. Good thing most of my medical texts do, right?

Very cool....I've tried it before but don't feel like focus very well. I was really annoyed when I was that part of my jury duty notice that read "...no knitting needles". Glad to hear you were able to use them :)
