Today is my "little" sister's 24th birthday. In her honor, I thought I would post a picture of this year's birthday shoes.
Birthday shoes (bûrthdā shōōz): *Fun* (read: non-practical) shoes that a we wouldn't ordinarily buy for ourselves, but would happily wear if we received them as a gift.
It may be worth mentioning here- although anyone who knows me already knows- that I am a shoe (& handbag) girl. Always have been, always will be. My family members will willingly recount to you how, even in pre-school, I was captivated by my little shoes and purses. Well, it must be in the genes (Dad, what's up?), because AKKF is also a shoe and purse fanatic. So anyway, the birthday shoe tradition started with identical pairs of gold high-heeled strappy sandals. We actually ended up buying each other the same exact shoes- HA! The thought of buying a pair of gold strappy sandals for ourselves seemed like a ludicrously unjustifiable purchase, but we didn't at all hesitate in buying them for the other person. It totally made sense. At least to us. :)
This year the theme was, apparently, faux reptilian. Again- I don't know if I could ever justify buying myself a pair of pink snakeskin-ish heels, but since they were given to me as a gift, I am happy to own them! AKKF's shoe of choice- the fancy turquoise number on the right. Happy Birthday, A!
